OpenAI’s ChatGPT Has A Rival: Google Bard Enters The Ring

TECH NEWS – A new tech company has brought its technology to the public in the field of artificial intelligence, giving the Microsoft-backed ChatGPT a rival(s).

Google said in a blog post that it has made Bard available to “trusted testers” and plans to offer its AI system to more developers starting in March. Bard is an experimental conversational AI service based on Google’s LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications). Here’s how the tech company describes its technology:

“Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with our large language models’ power, intelligence, and creativity. It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses. Bard can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now and then get drills to build your skills.”

Google will also integrate the Bard into its search engine, so we’ll soon have “easy-to-digest” answers to complex questions. It is in response to Microsoft’s move to incorporate ChatGPT into its search engine, Bing, which uses GANs (generative adversarial networks) to learn and create new content almost indistinguishable from human-created content. GANs use two types of neural networks: where a generator creates new content, while a discriminator evaluates that content and then provides feedback, GANs gradually self-evolve.

In January, Microsoft announced it was investing $10 billion in OpenAI, bringing its total to $13 billion. It will give OpenAI access to Microsoft’s Azure, its cloud computing services, while Redmond can claim 75% of the profits until the $13 billion is paid off. After that, Microsoft will take 49% of the company’s earnings until OpenAI reaches $92 billion, at which point the Redmond shares will revert to the OpenAI non-profit foundation.

Google Cloud has recently invested $300 million in AI startup Anthropic, allowing the company to train its AI systems with Google Cloud hardware in return for a 10% stake going to Alphabet (Google’s parent company).
