Official: Mortal Kombat 12 Is In The Making – Release Time Also Revealed!

Mortal Kombat 12 is now officially on its way, announced by not anyone but without the fanfare…

Mortal Kombat 12 is coming later this year, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO and president on Thursday during an investor conference call. Warner Bros. chief David Zaslav said that the next game in the Mortal Kombat franchise would be released alongside Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League sometime in 2023.

Zaslav’s reveal was atypically frills-free for the Mortal Kombat series. He told investors and media that Warner Bros. Discovery has “ambitious launch projections” for both the new Suicide Squad game and Mortal Kombat 12.

Warner Bros. Discovery-owned developer NetherRealm Studios has yet to comment publicly on Mortal Kombat 12.

However, series co-creator Ed Boon has previously hinted on Twitter that a new game from NetherRealm is coming in 2023 and expressed hope that The Boys Homelander would “fit in nicely” with the Mortal Kombat roster as a guest character. (NetherRealm has already confirmed another project, the mobile RPG Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, is scheduled for release later this year.)

NetherRealm’s last Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat 11, was released in April 2019. The developer has added an additional 12 characters to the roster and has also released an expansion pack called Aftermath through 2020. In 2021, the studio said it is “focusing on its next project” after supporting Mortal Kombat 11 for over two years.
