We also found out when Microsoft will hold its E3 conference (will it be there?), and there is some news about Todd Howard’s next game.
Let’s start with Starfield. Bethesda Game Studios’ game was previously meant (after an earlier postponement, as it was initially due for release on November 11, 2022) to be released on Xbox One and PC in the first half of 2023, but that’s been pushed back. Here’s Howard’s explanation: “Hey everyone, from myself and everybody here at Bethesda, we are so excited to tell you when Starfield is coming out this year finally. We have poured ourselves into this game, and even I’m surprised how much we can run—it is significant. We’re always playing the game—shout-out over here to lead producer Tim Lamb. Old-school fans, you may remember him from the Oblivion Making-Of video where he’s sitting on a similar sofa doing similar things.
But also, this June, we will bring you into the studio and give you a deep dive into the game at our ‘Starfield Direct.’ There’s so much that we still have to show you. The game has many hallmarks you’d expect from us, but it’s also a unique experience. And again, thank you all for all your excitement about the game—your support and comments. We do read it all. We know you’ve long waited to play something new from us. Believe it or not, we’re similar—we miss it and just can’t wait for you all to play it. So thanks, and we’ll see you soon,” said Howard.
So there will be a Starfield Direct, but we’ll return to that. Microsoft has announced that Xbox Games Showcase 2023 (they no longer add Bethesda) will be held on June 11. So right during E3. They may or may not be at the Los Angeles Convention Center. And right after that comes this particular Starfield Direct, which means that Redmond is confident in the game’s success.
But when is Starfield coming?! On September 6 for Xbox Series and PC. (But if they postpone that too, we’ll laugh.) Will Larian Studios delay Baldur’s Gate III, due a week before that, for strategic reasons…?
