Bloober Team and Anshar Studio have shown us how the game, running on Unreal Engine 5, has an intense atmosphere.
“Layers of Fear (2023) is a tribute to our fans. The game has shaped how we strive to make the best horror experiences possible. We’re hopeful that our community will enjoy what we consider to be the series’ crowning work,” Bloober Team, who are working on the Silent Hill 2 Remake, wrote in a press release, and it’s a little baffling that they’ve given the game the same name after a renaming that was released several years ago, so they have to use the year to distinguish what they’re talking about.
We’ve previously summarised the game, so we quote ourselves: “The Final Note focuses on Painter’s Wife, a desperate musician. So this isn’t Layers of Fear reimagining the original Layers of Fear story, as we haven’t heard this story yet. There’s also a hint of a new location, which will help to tie the story of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2 together as it dives deeper into how the two seemingly separate events are connected.
Here’s the game’s overview: “Layers of Fears is a first-person, psychological-horror game set in the early 20th century that explores the lives and tragedies of a madness-engulfed family and their slow descent into insanity. This journey is heavily influenced by the many lenses of art, starting with Victorian painting and slowly unraveling into the worlds of music and film. This game builds on the foundations of the franchise’s previous entries and re-imagines the overall narrative structure connecting them all. Layers of Fear will serve as a nexus where the revised stories of the original Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2 merge into a single unified experience that is expanded with the addition of new original chapters.

The mansion and ocean liner are inspired by masterpiece paintings, architecture, cinema, and décor from the 19th and 20th centuries. Numerous pieces of original art and music flesh out the story and environment, including an original score composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski, conducted by George Strezov, and performed by the Sofia Session Orchestra.”
Layers of Fear will be released sometime in June for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam).
