The Best Games on Steam Deck in 2023: Don’t Miss These!

Valve’s portable PC offers gamers plenty of exciting and varied titles. We’ve collected the best ones that you should definitely try on Steam Deck.

Steam Deck opens up a new dimension of PC gaming for gamers. The handheld console developed by Valve allows us to enjoy our favorite games anywhere, even on the go. Steam Deck is available in three versions, all using hardware based on AMD RDNA2 architecture and a new SteamOS compatible with Windows games. The product has been a great success in its market and it is becoming easier to get such a device.

The quality of the games running on Steam Deck is constantly checked and certified by Valve. Addresses that receive the seal of the company meet the requirements of the portable system in all respects. So let’s see what are the best games for Steam Deck.

Hogwarts Legacy

Release Date: February 10, 2023 Developer Studio: Avalanche Software Genre: Action-Adventure, Open World Steam Link: Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is perhaps the most popular game of the year so far. Set in the Harry Potter universe, the title takes place about a hundred years before the events of the original books and films, so we can follow a unique story in the wizarding world. Avalanche’s project brings to life a rich and detailed open world that really shines when it allows us to simply exist in that enchanting environment.

While a Nintendo Switch port has already been announced, at the moment the only way to play Hogwarts Legacy on the go is if you have a Steam Deck (or technically a laptop). At one time, these types of projects would have remained only available on home consoles or PCs, but Valve’s portable system has broken down the barrier that separated these sides of the gaming market.

Hi-Fi Rush

Release date: January 25, 2023 Developer studio: Tango Gameworks Genre: Hack and slash, rhythm Steam link: Hi-Fi Rush

The Hi-Fi Rush exploded completely unexpectedly. Tango Gameworks’ game was announced and released on the same day it became available on Xbox Game Pass. Plus, it’s already Steam Deck lore

In addition, the hack and slash title is already certified by Steam Deck, so owners of the portable system can jump right into this project. With stunning visual design and great music, Hi-Fi Rush is a true sensory delight. Of course, high quality wouldn’t be worth much if the gameplay wasn’t up to standard, which Tango knows well. Hi-Fi Rush rewards players who match their movement to the beat, and it doesn’t just give you an advantage in combat. Even actions related to exploration benefit from this synergy.

Persona 5 Royal

Release Date: October 21, 2022 Developer Studio: Atlus Genre: Turn-Based JRPG, Social Simulator Steam Link: Persona 5 Royal

Once upon a time, we needed a PlayStation console to enjoy a main Persona episode, but that’s no longer the case. The latest turn-based installment in Atlus’ franchise is now available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC, which also means Persona 5 Royal can be played on Steam Deck.

Persona 5 Royal running on Steam Deck is excellent, in most cases it runs stably at 60 FPS at maximum graphics settings. Turn-based life-sim JRPGs like Persona have always been a great choice for portable systems, as they allow you to progress through the story and side missions at your own pace.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Release Date: October 26, 2018 Developer: Rockstar Games Genre: Action-Adventure, Open World Steam Link: Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a huge game in more ways than one, and Steam Deck is perhaps the only portable system that can accommodate this experience. This game is perhaps Rockstar Games’ best creation, with quality storytelling and stunning graphics that few other games can match. The game took advantage of the capabilities of previous-generation consoles, and the continued success of Red Dead Online shows how well its mechanics work. Rockstar’s latest big release is also thriving in the PC space, running smoothly on Valve’s new portable device, Steam Deck.

It’s been a dream for many gamers to be able to take such an expansive experience with them anywhere, especially after we marveled at it on home consoles four years ago. It’s a technical feat, and one that probably won’t happen on the similarly portable Nintendo Switch, so fans will have to make do with enjoying Red Dead Redemption 2 from home – or from their Steam Deck.

The full list:

  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Vampire Survivors
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • Elden Ring
  • Hades
  • Persona 5 Royal
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • Cult of the Lamb

This list of the top 10 most played Steam Deck games should not surprise anyone, as each game was a huge success. Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling new game of the year so far, and it’s possible that it will remain so until the end of the year. Vampire Survivors is a viral indie sensation, while Elden Ring remains wildly popular. Cyberpunk 2077 may come as a surprise to some given the game’s lackluster start, but CD Projekt Red has released several updates to improve its open-world gameplay, and the success of the Edgerunners anime series has helped revive interest in the game.

It’s worth noting that all but one of these games are Steam Deck certified. Red Dead Redemption 2 is not yet Steam Deck certified at the time of writing, which means players may experience some performance hiccups when trying to play the open-world epic on the device. With Red Dead Redemption 2 being one of the most played Steam Deck games since the portable system launched last year, it might be worth optimizing the game and getting the nod.
