A Red Dead Redemption 2 fan has come up with an alternative ending that will shock gamers who have played the title.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely regarded as one of the greatest stories in gaming, with a visceral ending that surprised gamers at its launch in 2018.
The game served as a prequel to 2010’s Red Dead Redemption. It only amplified the bittersweet nature of the story. The dramatic irony that some characters’ fates were sealed before a single bullet was fired lends a melancholy overtone to Red Dead Redemption 2’s massive campaign. Very few characters in the game get a happy ending, and it was a brave decision by Rockstar, which has earned the right to attempt such a bold move in an AAA game over many years. No doubt it will pay off massively.
Redditor Georgian_Shark posted the shocking alternative ending. It shows that at the end of Red Dead Redemption 2’s epilogue, the former protagonist Arthur Morgan exits the shack instead of Dutch Van Der Linde. Arthur, of course, dies at the end of chapter 6, while Dutch is saved. So it would definitely be quite a twist if he returns here. The clip uses soundtracks from the game to make it sound completely natural. While it clearly uses a mod to create the effect, unfortunately, the exact mod hasn’t been released in the thread yet. Players immediately started joking about the mod.
One user claimed that the video was “directed by M. Night Shyamalan”, referring to the filmmaker’s penchant for twisty endings, while others had actual suggestions for how it could work in the game.
One Redditor thought it would have been a superb concept to have an ending where Arthur Morgan is played with low honour, survives the events and turns on John Marston in the epilogue. The sombre ending of Red Dead Redemption 2 is somewhat influenced by whether players play with low or high honour. However, this only affects how Arthur dies. This could have been an enjoyable alternative if it had been done.
When Rockstar finally decides to release Red Dead Redemption 3, the developer will have a huge boot to fill in the person of the main characters, John Marston and Arthur Morgan. The pair are among the most beloved protagonists in gaming history. The developer will have to try something radically different. Only then can they live up to expectations. Some gamers want a female protagonist in Red Dead Redemption 3. This could be an excellent way to go in the sequel, especially given the popularity of Sadie Adler, the gunfighter in the second part.
