PS Plus News: Popular Game Gets Trial; Could There Be A Problem With The New Free Game?!

Surprisingly, one of the games included in the PS Plus Extra games catalogue in March 2023 does not include a free upgrade to PS5. However, one title has received a trial version at the Premium subscription level that may be of interest to many.

One of the games available to users of PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium levels does not offer a free update to PS5. PS Plus Extra and Premium members get access to many games every month, and March 2023 includes some notable franchise titles.

According to Push Square, only the PS4 version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available in the PlayStation Plus Extra game catalogue.

While this is no change for PS4 owners, it means that PS5 fans will need to download the previous generation version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Even though an updated current-gen edition already exists. The PS5 version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was released in January 2023. It came as a free update for owners of the game. But it seems the PS Plus version doesn’t come with the same offer.

The current-generation release of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot includes some significant improvements over the original version, including improved graphics and support for 60 FPS gameplay, so some PS5 users may be disappointed to learn that they won’t be able to upgrade to this version for free. Other cross-generation games available to PS Plus Extra members this month offer the updated version for free, which makes the situation even more confusing.

Sonic Frontiers on PS Plus Premium!

PlayStation Plus Premium members can now download a time-limited trial of Sonic Frontiers 2022. PS Plus Premium offers some notable bonuses compared to Extra, including the ability to stream PS3 titles as well as play PS1, PS2 and PSP games.

PlayStation Plus Premium members can also play the full version of Sonic Frontiers for up to an hour, giving them an in-depth look at the game mechanics.

Fans should note that this timer is based on the app’s runtime, so users must close the game from the PlayStation menu to stop the countdown. According to Sega, a playthrough of Sonic Frontiers will take approximately 20-30 hours. So that one hour seems very short, especially compared to other trial versions offered on PS Plus Premium.

Sonic Frontiers was released in November 2022 to mixed critical reception. Currently, the PS5 version of the game has a Metacritic score of 71. However, the user score is much higher, now sitting at 8.2.
