Another Game Of Thrones Prequel Series Comes To HBO, And Not Just Any Story!

MOVIE NEWS – A new Game of Thrones prequel series to George R.R. Martin’s universe has been announced by Warner Bros. Discovery Max presentation.

HBO is bringing a new Game of Thrones prequel series to its streaming service, based on another popular character from George R.R. Martin’s vast Westeros universe.

Following the phenomenal success of the last prequel series, House of the Dragon, and the upcoming second season, HBO is still riding on the appeal of the original series, which ended in 2019 after eight seasons.

Several other projects have been rumoured or confirmed to be in the works. Among them is a Game of Thrones sequel spin-off that would be dedicated to Jon Snow and his adventures beyond the Wall.

HBO has now announced another Game of Thrones prequel series. This one focuses on the story of one of Martin’s characters, Sir Duncan the Tall, and is titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night. Martin will produce the new series with Ira Parker, Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis. “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg,” reads the official logline. “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.” Ser Duncan the High preceded Ser Barrister Selmy as leader of the Kingsguard, was a close personal friend of Aegon V Targaryen, and was the subject of many songs and stories in the novels and part of the rich history that underpins the success story.

Martin has so far published a single “Dunc & Egg” volume, available as a collection of short stories titled The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which tells the story of how the two protagonists met and their early adventures.

Any series in the Game of Thrones universe is likely to have a good chance of success. Especially given the massive appeal of the original series and the growing audience for House of the Dragon. The second season of the latter series is scheduled for the summer of 2024. As there is plenty of space between the seasons of the projects, several series set in the same universe can coexist.
