We’re not saying one of the biggest because, with Forspoken, Square Enix didn’t deliver what Sony might have expected from the now-defunct Luminous Productions game.
The game’s theme song (Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing) was written by Kenshi Yonezu and performed by him in the Square Enix and Sony game (as Sony is also helping with development). The game’s producer Naoki Yoshida announced this on Twitter. Yonezu said, “Words cannot express Final Fantasy’s impact on my life. I never thought I would ever receive an opportunity like this. I wrote this song, especially for this game. Thank you.” Yoshida added, “When I discovered we’d be able to work with Yonezu-san, I was surprised and overjoyed. I’m a big fan of Yonezu’s work, and I know that he has a passion for creating music that resonates across the generations, so I was sure he’d be able to capture the world, the story, and the themes of Final Fantasy XVI. He’s an amazing artist and an avid gamer and Final Fantasy fan, so please look forward to hearing his theme song!”
