Steven Yeun Says His Marvel Thunderbolts Character Is More Mysterious Than We Thought!

MOVIE NEWS – Steven Yeun has given fans the first clue to deciphering his mysterious but significant role in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Thunderbolts.

The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun – who was last seen in Beef, our review of which can be found here – has broken the silence about his role in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming Thunderbolts project and offered fans a cryptic description. He also talked about his unique reason for joining the MCU project in his unconfirmed role.

Based on the anti-hero team of the same name, the Thunderbolts are a group of villains, villains and traditional heroes who are conscripted into the service of the government, ostensibly under the leadership or direction of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

Harrison Ford recently took over this role in Captain America Part 4. Several stars have confirmed that they will be reprising previous MCU roles in the film. Among them are Ghost, Taskmaster, the Winter Soldier and the Red Guardian. But the entire cast has not yet been announced, with one of the unnamed spots being that of Steven Yeun.

All we know is that Yeun is reportedly joining the cast of Thunderbolts as a central MCU character. Plot and character details for the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut are still largely under wraps. Yeun gave a cryptic description of the role and explained what attracted him to the role. He spoke to Empire about his upcoming projects: “I don’t know if it [the mcu] was explicitly on my bucket list. It was more the story, getting to work with Jake Schreier again, who directed Beef, and what his intentions were. The intentions of the particular character that they wanted me to play were very clear, and that’s what drew me to the film.”

One of the prevailing theories about the casting is that Yeun will play the Sentry in the first live-action adaptation. He is a rarely seen but insanely powerful Marvel Comics character on par with DC’s Superman. While Sentry has never been in the ranks of the comic book Thunderbolts, he has been seen in action in the similarly themed Dark Avengers. The Thunderbolts may need a heavyweight if another popular rumour proves true.

The team’s opponent will be the equally insanely powerful Hyperion, another obscure character who non-comic book readers may be asked to guess who he is when he appears in Thunderbolts.

The wording of Yeun’s description leaves much to the imagination. But the project is sure to attract attention regardless. After all, comparisons between Thunderbolts and Suicide Squad are already being made on a conceptual basis. It is to be hoped that this project will be equally well received. It was the remake of Suicide Squad that brought James Gunn back to DC for further projects. This eventually led to his current position as head of the DCU.

While speculation can be a good pastime, everyone will have to wait and see what Yeun’s MCU debut will be. Much like her co-star Ayo Edebiri, who also has a previously undisclosed role in Thunderbolts.
