MOVIE NEWS – John Wick director Chad Stahelski has revealed the cast he has in mind for Chapter 5 – and some exciting names are on the list.
Although John Wick: Chapter 5 hasn’t even been announced yet, director Chad Stahelski has revealed the cast he’d like to work with if the franchise does indeed get a fifth instalment.
Though the success of John Wick: Chapter 4 has producers and fans alike clamouring for another film in the franchise, setting up the next sequel will be a bit more complicated than in the past.
Part four of the action franchise ended with Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King and Ian McShane’s Winston paying their respects at John’s grave. While the first three films in the franchise, on the other hand, immediately set the stage for the next movie. The ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 seemed more definitive.
However, John’s death did not stop fans from speculating about a fifth film starring Keanu Reeves. Nor did it stop Stahelski from thinking about it. In an interview with The Direct, Stahelski listed the actors he has in mind if Chapter 5 becomes a reality. “There’s a huge list, but just the first thing that came to mindset was Cillian Murphy. I’m a big ‘Peaky Blinders’ fan. So, you know, I just think Cillian would fit right in. Colin Farrell is fantastic. Charlize Theron when she did ‘Atomic Blonde,’ I saw that went, ‘Oh my God, I gotta work with this woman. She’s awesome. I worked with Michelle Yeoh way back on a commercial years ago, and I’ve been dying to work with her ever since. I’m such a huge fan.” Stahelski also mentioned actors Jurnee Smollett, Peter Dinklage and Robert Downey Jr., who he would love to work with if the fifth film comes to fruition.
Although John Wick is currently in dormancy, he could be revived once more. Stahelski cautiously reiterated that John Wick: Chapter 5 is not confirmed or in any pre-production stage, but the fact that he is already thinking about who he could cast in the fifth film is a good sign.
What the fifth film might include is anyone’s guess – John could either fake his death at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, or Stahelski could take the franchise back in time and tell a story about Wick before he left the “business.”
While Reeves’ future in the franchise is uncertain for now, fans will get to see him at least one more time in the spinoff, Ballerina, which hits theatres next summer.
