The director of Asteroid City made a move that few believed

MOVIE NEWS – It caused quite a stir when Wes Anderson announced that he would appeal the decision of the Motion Picture Association of America, which categorized his new film, Asteroid City, as “recommended for under 17s only with adult accompaniment”.

The reason for the decision was that the production contains brief nudity, smoking and sexual references. Such appeals, although they occur frequently, are only successful in 1.4 percent of cases, for example Kevin Smith managed to prevent Shop-Stop, which is now considered a classic, from being classified as an extremely age-restricted, and thus almost unmarketable, film. .

Regarded as one of the most important American auteur filmmakers, Anderson does not lie to himself with his new work, because the short summary of the opus sounds like this: the romantic dramatic sci-fi comedy is a “poetic meditation on the meaning of life” . Asteroid City still seems like a mystical puzzle, because it’s hard to imagine how it fit into two hours of film time or two dozen screen names. Without pretending to be complete:Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brodyand Liev Schreiber.

The story takes place in 1955 in an imaginary small desert town, where students and their parents gather for a fun observatory meeting, but during the night a fateful event occurs.

Asteroid City is featured in the competition program of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The seven-time Oscar nominee Anderson’s favorite film is The Grand Budapest Hotel, which won four Oscars, and he himself received two nominations for it (best director, best screenwriter).
