Can This Film Really Save The Career Of Guy Ritchie?!

MOVIE NEWS – Guy Ritchie’s recent films have been a big box office failure, but his new action film with Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal might make up for it.

Guy Ritchie’s newly announced film with Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal could break a recent string of box office failures. Ritchie’s next film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (also starring Henry Cavill), will not be released until 2024. But in his next untitled film, Cavill and Gyllenhall will play “two extraction experts tasked with planning the elaborate escape of a high-ranking female negotiator”.

Despite some notable blockbusters, such as the Sherlock Holmes films, which have averaged over $500 million worldwide, and especially Aladdin, which grossed over $1 billion, Guy Ritchie’s films are not as successful as his filmography suggests.

Ritchie’s previous films with Cavill and Gyllenhaal were not big box-office hits. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. with Cavill and Armie Hammer became a cult classic, but in 2015 it only made $108.5 million at the box office. More recently, Ritchie released The Covenant with Jake Gyllenhaal in 2023. So far, this movie has only made $15.6 million at the box office. Based on his track record with individual actors, there is no guarantee that their next collaboration will be a huge success. But he has the “star power” to make his next big hit or at least surpass his recent films.

In addition to his box office successes with Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes films and Disney’s live-action Aladdin, Guy Ritchie is known for his violent, witty crime films with a dynamic ensemble cast of mostly British actors, including famous actors such as Jason Statham, Ray Liotta, Tom Hardy, Gerard Butler, Idris Elba and Brad Pitt. However, the films are mostly lower budget and R-rated. In other words, they are not precisely designed to break the bank.

Cavill and Gyllenhaal are both at the peak of their star power, so if the film has a big enough budget and marketing, it could be Ritchie’s next blockbuster.

However, as previous collaborations have shown, both had the right ingredients to make a big splash at the box office. So on their own, Cavill and Gyllenhaal certainly don’t guarantee that Ritchie’s next film will be a hit, especially with the current box office success. However, they give it a mainstream appeal that could change everything. Perhaps their performances will provide that ‘certain something extra’ that will make this newly announced film a real success.
