Mortal Kombat 1 co-creator Ed Boon is at it again, with a cryptic social media post sparking further speculation about the cast list for MK 1.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has posted another mysterious Mortal Kombat 1 reference. This time, he hinted at old characters returning to the arena.
Fans are naturally excited to see how familiar characters will be introduced under Mortal Kombat 1’s new status quo.
Aside from Liu Kang and Shang Tsung, last month’s MK 1 teaser confirmed a lot. Fan favourites like these are returning to the new universe. People like Sasori, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Princess Kitana and Mileena. In addition, Mortal Kombat mainstay Johnny Cage will also be in the game. Plus, he’s wearing an alternate skin modelled after famous action star Jean-Claude Van Damme. Of course, there are still plenty of opportunities for past Kombat players to emerge from the shadows in MK 1. Especially with the new gameplay trailer unveiled at this week’s Summer Game Fest.
Recently, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon gave new fuel to speculation about the Mortal Kombat 1 roster with a mysterious new Twitter post. Boon has previously interacted with Mortal Kombat fans on social media several times. Most recently, he shared a character selection screen from 1997’s Mortal Kombat 4. He hinted that some of the characters in the image would be “making their way back”.
This prompted Mortal Kombat fans to theorise about which MK 4 cast list members Ed Boon referred to in his latest tweet. The presence of the dragon emoji has led some to speculate that the lizard-like ninja Reptile could make a triumphant return after being absent from MK 11. Others assume that Reiko, Shao Khan’s loyal general who was once believed to be the Outworld tyrant reborn, will be MK 1.
A third possibility is Jarek, a brutal member of the Black Dragon clan whose presence could signal the return of the villainous Kano.
In the rebooted world of MK 1, anything is possible. Ed Boon continues to fuel the fire of fan speculation with his latest MK-related social media posts. More answers about who will be reappearing in Mortal Kombat 1 will be revealed in the gameplay trailer for the game, which was shown at Summer Game Fest this weekend. But for now, gamers can only speculate on which MK 4 fighters will be featured in the next Mortal Kombat.
