Ascendant and Electronic Arts have shared a new gameplay trailer for Immortals of Aveum. The latter shows off some incredible-looking sets from the upcoming fantasy shooter. The footage was shown on the opening day of Summer Game Fest 2023.

Developed by California-based Ascendant Studios, Immortals of Aveum was announced in December 2022 as a magic-based FPS being made by industry veterans who have worked on hit series such as BioShock, Halo and Call of Duty.

While Ascendant and EA have shared a wealth of new footage since the end of the year and even licensed a limited hands-on trailer for Immortals of Aveum, none of the material we’ve seen before relies as much on the original promise of a cinematic experience as the game’s SGF 2023 trailer. The three-minute clip consists mainly of action-packed gameplay sequences. The adventures take place in and around a 400-foot colossus. This imposing machine is an integral part of the game’s elaborate story. It is described as a destructive and “highly controlled” piece of ancient war machinery. They are used for both transport and combat.

The trailer for SGF 2023 was first shown on stage by Darren Barnet. He leads the game’s star-studded cast as Jak, a mage trying to save the titular planet Aveum from certain destruction. It will not be a peaceful affair. In the footage just shared, Jak slaughters dozens of enemy troops using a variety of abilities.

The developers have previously described Immortals of Aveum as a mix of Doom, BioShock, Call of Duty, and God of War. But the newly debuted trailer also recalls some memorable moments from the Dishonored series.

Like Arkane Studios’ franchise, Immortals of Aveum is a fantasy single-player experience that feels mainly like an FPS but is actually an action RPG.

Early previews of the game have already revealed that a respectable skill tree supports a plethora of play styles. This has a positive impact on the overall replay value. For those interested in a one-off experience, the game still offers good value for money. Indeed, the developers recently estimated that a single campaign playthrough would take around 25 hours.
