[UF 2023] Assassin’s Creed Mirage & Codename Jade Both Featured At Ubisoft Forward! [VIDEO]

Assassin’s Creed action returns to Baghdad, with new enemies and new survival options, while a mobile game is in the works…

Coming in October, Assassin’s Creed Mirage aims to return to the roots of the most successful franchise, the city instead of the vast open map, the true definition of an assassin in video games: decision-making and parkour.

Today, we’ve got another batch of Mirage videos to get a little more insight into Ubisoft’s action game, with commentary from the creators themselves.

Of course, there’s no question that Assassin’s Creed’s “RPG triumvirate” Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are bad games. In fact, they are very successful from a sales point of view. That said, the simplification and return to the roots is welcome. This is not only reflected in the chosen location, Baghdad. But also in where Ubisoft’s Bordeaux-based studio has placed its focus for the first exercise. Narrative director Sarah Beauliu and animation supervisor Benjamin Potts explained that the idea behind Mirage was to “create a classic Assassin’s Creed but with today’s technology”.

We have to say that current technology suits it very well indeed. The detail and artistry of Baghdad is very strong in next-gen. We saw this version at the Ubisoft Forward press preview. In terms of size, it would be on par with Paris or Constantinople in previous games. However, we are promised greater “density”. This is partly backed up by a very agile parkour system with polished animations. But the sheer number of opportunities to complete the proposed tasks is impressive. For example, a side mission has been shown. A contract in which the player always had to improvise to emerge victorious.

The idea behind Mirage is to create a classic Assassin’s Creed but with today’s technology.

We have a new type of enemy, an archer, who prevents our eagle from having a view of the events in our environment. Then there are the classic tools, such as a pay group to move around and allow us to hide in them. And then there are the sleeping darts or smoke bombs. Not to mention Bashim’s ultra-strength to take down multiple enemies at once.

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade

Codename: Jade will be a free-to-play mobile game. But that doesn’t mean that the French company, this time in alliance with Level Infinite (Tencent Games), doesn’t guarantee that we’ll get a vast open world. You’ll be able to explore large cities in their depths, carry out parkour, kill multiple targets in different modes, and participate in exciting battles.

Set in the 3rd century BC, during one of the first unified empires of ancient China, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade takes us on Xia’s journey as trade and cultural splendour between East and West begins to unfold.

Meanwhile, new challenges and threats lurk in the shadows. “Discover the prestigious dynasties of the East, defend the Great Wall and uncover the secrets of the terracotta warriors. Experience the breathtaking landscapes of Xianyang, the imperial capital, and mingle with the merchants of the East,” they proclaim.

If what you’ve seen in the trailer and read in the story has convinced you, you’ll be pleased to hear that a closed beta for Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade is planned for later this summer. You can apply directly on the game’s website. As a reminder, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox X Series X|S, with other titles in the franchise currently in development.
