MOVIE NEWS – Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, can’t believe why Hollywood left his movie Black Adam without a sequel. Johnson wanted to become the central figure of the DC Universe, but even the planned sequel was canceled, which the actor regrets and considers pointless.
Black Adam interest Dwayne Johnson, the famous pancrat-turned-actor, has thrown himself full force into the world of comic book movies, constantly proclaiming that he is “redrawing the power structure of the DC Universe.” Johnson aspired to star in the superhero franchise in the near future, but it didn’t work out so well that the planned sequel was also permanently canceled. Johnson accepts the decision, but does not understand it at all.
Before the release of the film, new leaders were appointed to lead DC Studios in the fall: James Gunn and Peter Safran. It was their decision to refuse to continue. “I think Black Adam is one of those movies that got caught in the tangled web of fresh management. It’s always going to be one of the biggest mysteries, not just to me and my team, but to our entire industry” – said Johnson, who was a guest on Kevin Hart’s talk show, Hart to Heart.
Johnson finds the decision particularly strange because, according to him, Black Adam was also financially successful. The film cost an estimated $190 million to $260 million to produce, and ultimately grossed $168 million in North America, while grossing $391 million worldwide. While this would be considered a flop by most accounts, Johnson, who was involved in the production through his own production company Seven Bucks, is adamant that it is not.
The actor claimed on Hart to Heart that the sequel to Black Adam should have been released because the film had the best opening weekend of his acting career, which could have brought in an additional $100-$200 million in revenue if released in China. “We introduced a new superhero. We started building a new franchise. We brought back Superman and Henry Cavill. The whole world went crazy. And in the process, we created a diverse portfolio of superheroes.”
Johnson compared the failure of a Black Adam sequel to the new owner of a football team firing the coach despite the team winning the championship the previous season. However, the situation at the studio is quite different, the fall is attributed to Dwayne Johnson’s huge ego, which, according to them, also caused damage to Shazam 2.
