MOVIE NEWS – An actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is urging James Bond executives to name him the franchise’s next villain.
An actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in the running to be cast in the James Bond universe. A series of spy thrillers that has been running since 1962’s Dr. No, Bond’s world is full of stars showing off their skills on the big screen. Now that Daniel Craig has finished his time as Bond, Bond producers are looking for new actors. Meanwhile, development on the next Bond is well underway. Ant-Man and Oppenheimer star David Dastmalchian is looking for a chance to star alongside the new Bond.
In an interview with Slash Film (conducted in June, before the SAG-AFTRA strike), Dastmalchian argued for a role in the next James Bond film.
Dastmalchian is not really keen on taking on the coveted Bond role himself. Instead, he’s looking for an opportunity to join the ranks of Auric Goldfinger, Dr. No and Ernst Stavro Blofeld as a Bond villain. He hopes the interview will help him get the attention of Bond executives.
“It begins right now. So whoever is reading this, take it as a sign. You were meant to be reading this line at this moment as you’re thinking about the future of what you guys are doing with the franchise. Trust me when I say that I can bring something to an enemy of 007, whether he or she or they be played in a way that no one has ever seen Bond brought to life before, which is of course the way that you guys always do it. I think there’s no one to push Bond to the limits of their capabilities the way that I could, and I would love to do it. So there’s my pitch to them. I can’t wait for them to read this. And then I will owe you when or if I ever get that role, I guess 10%.”
Who will be the next James Bond?
Dastmalchian is right to come forward now, as casting is still an open question for the next James Bond films. It is currently unknown which actor will play the next iteration of Bond. Several names have already emerged as possible options. Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba have long been considered leading candidates. But their involvement is highly doubtful. Elba, for example, is not interested in playing Bond. These well-known stars have already made a name for themselves with blockbuster productions, including Man of Steel, Venom and Thor.
All of these options assume that the next Bond will be a popular and well-known actor. All indications are that James Bond executives may be looking for an actor who is not yet a popular name.
Bond executives have already hinted that a relatively unknown actor in his 30s will likely take the role, which completely contradicts these predictions.
New names are constantly emerging as potential Bond. Among them is Damson Idris (Snowfall), who is moving up the ranks. A formal decision is unlikely to be made for some time. As the search for the next Bond is still ongoing, and the studio is making sure that the search is thorough. Still, if Dastmalchian of Marvel fame eventually claims the role of Bond villain, there’s no doubt he’ll take it alongside a brand new James Bond.
