Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: It’s Best Not To Be Secretive

The next game from Insomniac Games has laid its cards on the table, which could be helpful for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

For Sony’s games, pre-launch marketing is overwhelmingly based on cutscenes, and it’s mainly during State of Play shows that we see extended gameplay. In the new Spider-Man game, Peter Parker will be wearing the symbiote costume, and Miles Morales will be there as a second superhero. The gameplay of the two is different. Sony has already revealed a lot about what promises to be the biggest PlayStation 5 exclusive this year, including Kraven and Venom among the baddies, and it follows that Peter won’t be wearing the symbiote suit all the way to fight his opponents. Nor are the characters and their ambitions hidden from the audience (for example, we learn from the videos that Harry returns from stasis to join Peter in his quest for a cure).

Marvel’s Spider-Man’s pre-release videos for PlayStation 4 in 2018 suggested that Mr. Negative could be the main villain, but he only ended up filling that role initially, as Otto Octavius, aka Dr. Octopus, became our main enemy (this transformation happened in the third chapter; it was leaked before release). Insomniac Games might be hiding an antagonist from the sequel or even an entire story thread still waiting to be revealed. Still, how the studio has announced all the essential elements so far prevents any significant spoilers from leaking out and gives fans a hint of what to expect.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could be pretty heavy on content (it could be packed full). It’s okay if someone else is being kept under wraps because this troublemaker’s role could be so well written that the story-focused trailer didn’t need to show it. So it’s something that players can discover when they finally get their hands on the disc (or when it’s downloaded from the PlayStation Store).

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on PlayStation 5 on October 20.
