MOVIE NEWS – An all-new game based on The Walking Dead has been announced, reminiscent of another popular TV series…

 

 

The announcement comes as a surprise to fans of The Walking Dead. With the trailer released today, fans can once again immerse themselves in the franchise’s beloved story and infected world.

The Walking Dead: Destinies was first shared on YouTube by IGN and is described as an action-adventure game that could change the story of The Walking Dead with its choice-driven gameplay.

The game is based directly on the first four seasons of the hugely popular TV series. But the players’ choices will lead to multiple outcomes, which may or may not be seen in the series. Players can relive the most memorable moments from the TV series. In the process, they can change the timeline of events based on their in-game choices and in-game decisions. The trailer highlights familiar locations and characters such as Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon. As well as showcasing the gameplay, which focuses on fighting zombie hordes or “walkers”. Although short, the trailer does give a glimpse into one of the many possible choice-based moments. The decision-making element is heavily emphasized, with the announcement trailer ending with the tagline “The choice is yours”.

With a strong emphasis on storytelling in a drama series, fans may be surprised that they can change the game’s events. Some have compared it to Marvel’s What If?, which also offers viewers an alternative insight into multiple story threads within a series. Those who have fallen in love with the AMC series can finally see their favourite characters get a happier ending, although it will depend on their choices within the game.

Flux Games are developing the game in partnership with GameMill Entertainment, the studio behind games like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout.

While unexpected, the Walking Dead: Destinies promises to be an exciting game. That said, its choice-based gameplay is already drawing comparisons to Telltale Games. They are the studio that made an incredibly popular video game based on the comic books of the same franchise. Telltale’s The Walking Dead has been praised by many as one of the best zombie games of all time, as well as one of the best choose-your-own-adventure games ever made.

If The Walking Dead: Destinies is to achieve the same success as its comic book predecessor, it will need to deliver on its promise of diverse storytelling and intuitive gameplay. The fact that The Walking Dead: Destinies follows the storyline of the TV series rather than the comic books makes The Walking Dead: Destinies a unique game of its kind.
