Two Of Sony’s PS4 Games Could Perform Brilliantly On PlayStation 5!

The problem is, it’s not exactly an official solution that got these two games there.

Bloodborne and The Last of Us Part II are two great games on PlayStation 4 (the former of which we recently argued Sony should perhaps bring a similar game to the PlayStation 5), and the PlayStation 5 hacking scene (because there is one) is showing great results for these two games. They’re responsible for the 60 FPS frame rate patches, so Bloodborne and Red Dead Redemption 2 can run at such an incredible pace that you’ll have to hack the console, voiding the warranty, and you could be banned from the PlayStation Network with this hardware.

Illusion is the name of the developer who is working on these 60 FPS patches and has recently proven that FromSoftware and Naughty Dog’s game can deliver over 100 FPS. Bloodborne is around 110 FPS at 720p resolution, while The Last Of Us Part II is approximately 85 frames per second at 1440p and around 105 frames per second at 1080p. 120 FPS is currently unachievable, as VRR is not available on 4.03 firmware, but given how fast things develop in this scene, people who specialize in it may get there shortly.

It’s a little disappointing how hobby developers can achieve such performance without documentation, while the studios that officially do it cannot harness the much greater power of PlayStation 5. The situation is fascinating in the case of Bloodborne, which has neither a PlayStation 5 nor a PC version, leaving players with poor performance and other technical flaws on the 2020-released console that is said to get an updated version with a detachable Blu-ray drive.

We can only hope to officially see improved performance on games stuck in the previous console generation.
