TECH NEWS – A well-known industry insider has leaked several details about a new Nintendo Switch OLED model. Including the name and the display window.
A new Nintendo Switch OLED model is on the horizon, with a Mario theme. A well-known industry insider revealed all this. He also leaked the name and the display window, among other things. Nintendo had already launched a Mario-themed Switch bundle in March, although that product only included the base edition of the console.
The most expensive version of Nintendo’s hybrid console has received three different editions since its debut in late 2021.
The first of these Switch OLED special editions was based on Splatoon 3, after Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom-themed models followed.
The fourth such console version will feature a Mario theme, industry insider Billbil-kun reported. Adding that, the device will be called the Nintendo Switch OLED Model – Mario Red Edition. The handheld console will reportedly come in the classic Neon Red shade with a red Joy-Con and a matching docking station. According to the same source, some protruding elements, such as the volume control buttons, may also have red accents. Nintendo reportedly plans to have the new Switch OLED model on store shelves “before October”. With August coming to an end, September 2023 remains the most likely release window.
The actual unveiling may come even sooner. A Nintendo Direct will be held on August 31. The Japanese gaming giant has revealed that the next broadcast will focus on Super Mario Bros. Wonder. So, the announcement of the Switch model would be ultimately in style. Moreover, the console’s supposed September release window also fits in with Nintendo’s previous experience with special edition Switch OLED models. All of these were launched about a month before the themed game. To be clear, Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released on October 20.
As for pricing, Billbil-kun reports that the Mario Red Edition version of the console will retail for €349.99 in Europe. That’s the same price tag as the standard OLED-equipped model, and should be $349.99 in the States.
The new version of the console will presumably also be available internationally, as has been the case with all previous special editions of the Switch OLED.
As for the veracity of the leak, Billbil-kun has been extremely consistent with hardware and video game leaks. It seems likely that this new Switch model is indeed on the horizon. The rumoured device could debut as the third Mario-themed Switch offering in 2023. In addition to the aforementioned bundle containing the base version of the console, Nintendo also released a similar bundle as part of its recent Mar10 celebrations, which included a white Switch OLED model with Mario accessories.
