Cyberpunk 2077: Free Update Brings New Police and Crime System

CD Projekt Red announced that a free update for Cyberpunk 2077 is coming soon, which will significantly transform the game’s police and crime system. The update offers new opportunities and challenges for players, who will have to face not only the police, but also other factions if they break the law or the rules of a certain area.

The update will be part of Cyberpunk 2077’s first paid expansion, Phantom Liberty, which will also bring a new story and locations to the game. Phantom Liberty will be released in September 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The update, however, will be available for free for all players who have already purchased the Cyberpunk 2077 base game.

The most important novelty of the update is the new police and crime system, which will completely change the gameplay. Players will not only get into conflict with the police, but also with other factions if they violate the law or the rules of a certain area. The factions’ reaction will depend on how they relate to the player, how strong they are and what interests they have. For example, if the player kills a Tyger Claw member, then not only the police, but also the Tyger Claw will chase them. If, however, the player has a good relationship with a faction, then they can get help from them in a fight against another faction.

The police’s behavior will also change in the update. The police will no longer appear suddenly near the player, but will react more realistically to crimes. The number and equipment of the police will depend on how serious the crime is, how quickly they learn about it and what neighborhood it happens in. The player will have more options to escape or talk their way out of the police, but if they cause too much trouble, then a warrant may be issued for them, which will make their life harder.

CD Projekt Red also said that the update will bring new missions and side effects to the game, which are related to the police and crime system. Players can take jobs from the police or other factions, which can affect Night City’s crime level and political situation. The players’ decisions will have an impact on which faction grows or weakens, and what new opportunities or dangers await them.

The Cyberpunk 2077 free update will arrive in September 2023, at the same time as the Phantom Liberty expansion.
