Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have to watch out for eight games that are scheduled to leave the service in September – six others have already left…
Xbox Game Pass and Ultimate have now got rid of six games. Including one of the highest-rated Xbox Series X games of all time! Microsoft never reveals how long a title will be available through Game Pass when it’s added. So, it’s always unclear how long a game will remain available. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn’t really advertise when a game is about to leave. This means that managing the Game Pass library can be a challenge.
Six games that are no longer available with the subscription service are Black Desert, Commandos 3 – HD Remaster, Immortality, Nuclear Throne, Surgeon Simulator 2 and Tinykin.
The standout here is Immortality 2022. It boasts a score of 88 on Metacritic. To put that number in context, two big Xbox releases this year, Starfield and Hi-Fi Rush, have scores of 87 on Metacritic. A score of 88 is on the borderline of being critically acclaimed. So it’s no surprise that this is one of the highest-rated Xbox Series X games on Xbox Game Pass.
For those who haven’t heard of the game, it popped out of the head of Sam Barlow, a well-known indie developer. He made a name for himself as an independent developer with the release of Her Story in 2015. The game notably received three nominations at The Game Awards 2022.
More Xbox Game Pass retirees in September 2023
The official Xbox Game Pass announcement for the first half of September 2023 is expected on or around Tuesday, September 5. At that time, Microsoft will reveal which titles will depart on September 15. It’s conceivable that all eight games will be listed with a September 15 removal date.
But there’s also a chance that some of the games listed below will be removed on September 30 instead, so fans should keep that in mind.
In any case, the eight games confirmed to be removed from Xbox Game Pass in September 2023 are Train Sim World 3: Standard Edition, Metal: Hellsinger, Fuga: Melodies of Steel, Civilization 6, Tainted Grail: Conquest, Aragami 2, DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition. If you navigate to the Leaving Soon section of Xbox Game Pass, you’ll see that Metal: Hellsinger is actually listed twice. That’s because the Xbox One version is listed separately from the Xbox Series X/S version.
Xbox Game Pass “Games Leaving Soon” list:
- Aragami 2
- Civilization 6
- Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition
- DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace
- Fuga: Melodies of Steel
- Metal: Hellsinger
- Tainted Grail: Conquest
- Train Sim World 3: Standard Edition
Of these, fans may see Metal: Hellsinger, Fuga: Melodies of Steel, Civilization 6 and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony as the saddest. Metal: Hellsinger is a rhythm FPS game that has received mostly positive reviews. It was even nominated for The Game Awards 2022.
Fuga: Melodies of Steel is a strategy game that has received similarly favourable reviews and has recently received a sequel that has received even more critical acclaim.
Civilization 6 really needs no introduction, as it is the latest in a long-running series of strategy games. Its console version wasn’t nearly as popular as the PC port. However, it is still sad that it has been removed from the service. The Danganronpa series also has a very dedicated fanbase. They will undoubtedly be sad that Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition has been removed from the Xbox Game Pass offering.
