Expendables: Producers Say The Franchise Can Go On, But On One Condition!

MOVIE NEWS – Producers Kevin King-Templeton and Les Weldon have revealed that Expendables 5 and other sequels are possible. But only if one condition is met.

In an interview, the producers of Expendables 4 (sorry, Expend4bles…) have hinted at the possibility of a fifth episode and more sequels. They revealed that only one condition has to be met. The latest sequel, directed by Scott Waugh, will see Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham return to direct more old-fashioned action. While the new film will see Stallone play Barney Ross for the last time, Statham’s Lee Christmas looks set to be the franchise’s new lead.

Ahead of the release of the fourth film, producers Kevin King-Templeton and Les Weldon told the Daily Express that the franchise could continue after the latest movie. According to the producers, the movie will be made “as long as there is demand”. Watch King-Templeton’s comments below:

“Nothing is off the table. We don’t know. It’s all about the fans.”

Should the Expendables franchise even continue?

None of the Expendables films have really been critics’ darlings. But the first two proved to be quite popular with audiences. The films boasted a cast of some of the best and most iconic action movie stars of the last 40 years. They also had plenty of bloody action sequences.

However, despite featuring the most impressive cast ever, the third instalment was a major disappointment, as the PG-13 rating meant that a critical element of the franchise’s success was lost.

It was the lowest-grossing film of the bunch. It was probably the poor reception that took so long to launch the fourth film. However, the third film suggested that it might be best to put the franchise to rest. But it is possible that the R-rated Expendables 4 could breathe new life into it once again.

How the new film will perform at the box office remains to be seen. The cast alone makes a sequel exciting. Besides franchise veterans like Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture, the upcoming sequel will also introduce new characters. They include 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais and Andy Garcia. It is not yet known how these new characters will be received.

But Part 5 already has an impressive roster of new and old blood to keep things moving forward.
