God of War 2018 is a fascinating action-adventure game that takes players from Greek mythology to Norse mythology. The game was originally released only for PlayStation 4, later also for PC, but you can also enjoy it on Steam Deck, because it runs very well with some compromises. Moreover, not just any way: a team of Hungarian fans has created a complete Hungarian dub of the game, which you can download and install for free. Of course, with the Linux-based Steam OS, this is not nearly as easy a feat as on PC, and the creators of the synchronization did not deal with this, but in this article we will show you how to set everything up easily and quickly. We will explain the various steps at a basic level, so we apologize to advanced users, but we will highlight the parts that may be a problem even for them.

 

After installing the game from your Steam account, you must first switch to desktop mode. To do this, press the Steam button on the device, then select the settings menu. Click on desktop mode here, then confirm the conversion. You will then see a Windows-like interface on which you can browse the Internet and install programs.

To install the Hungarian dub, visit [SzinkronSarok] website, where you can find the God of War 2018 project. Here you can choose an online or offline installer. The online installer only works if you have an internet connection and downloads the necessary files. The offline installer already includes them, but is larger. We chose the online installer, but you decide which one suits you better.

Once you’ve downloaded the installer, go back to the Steam interface. Here, right-click on the God of War 2018 game and select the “Add application” option. A window will then open in which you must enter the name of the application (e.g. God of War 2018 Hungarian dub) and its access path (e.g. /home/steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/God of War 2018/gow_szinkron_online .exe). If you do not know the exact path, use the browse button and search for the installation file, but it is most likely in the Downloaded folder.

Once you’ve added the app, it will appear in your games and you need to do one more important step. Right-click on the application you added and select the “Properties” menu.

Here, set the Proton version to “Proton Experimental”. This is very important because only this version will start the sync installer.

If you’re satisfied with this, double-click it to launch it. An installation window will then open, in which you must set the game folder. This will be /home/steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/God of War/ by default, but if the game is installed elsewhere, change it. If you are not sure where your game folder is, use the browse button and search for it. If you have done this, then click the “Install” button and wait for the synchronized files to overwrite the English ones.

If the installation is complete, then congratulations, there is only one more step left. Go back to the Steam interface and double-click on the God of War game. In the game, you can turn off the subtitles in the settings menu if they are confusing, because sometimes they differ from what the voice actors say.

It is also important to note that the Hungarian sound files overwrite the English ones, so if for some reason you don’t like the dubbing, you have to reinstall the whole game.
