MOVIE NEWS – A decade of Martin Scorcese biographical cinema is among the best-performing English-language films on Netflix’s global list!
The Wolf of Wall Street became a global Netflix hit. The Martin Scorsese film, released on Christmas 2013, follows real-life stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio). He strengthens his company with a team of rogue hedonists, who then swindle vast sums of money from their investors. Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Favreau and Jean Dujardin also appeared in the five-time Oscar-nominated film’s ensemble cast.
Netflix has just announced the Top 10 English-language movies for the week of September 18 to September 24. The adaptation of the true story The Wolf of Wall Street landed at number 6 on the list. Thanks to 3.2 million views, it has accumulated 9.7 million hours of watch time. With this, the decade-old film preceded the recently released Netflix hit You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, featuring Adam Sandler.
Will the new Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon, be as successful as The Wolf of Wall Street?
The Wolf of Wall Street is probably doing so well with less than a month to go before the October 20 release of the new Scorsese film Killers of the Flower Moon. The two films have many similarities. Among other things, they are based on a true story, boast a 3-hour running time, and DiCaprio plays the leading role. In Killers of the Flower Moon, DiCaprio also teams up with an up-and-coming actress, Lily Gladstone, just as he did with Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street.
If Killers of the Flower Moon does generate that much interest, it could be proof that the new film is well on its way to being a big hit.
The Wolf of Wall Street brought in $406.9 million from its $100 million budget upon its release. This resurgence in popularity shows that the same audience that flocked to the film may still be holding out for Scorsese’s epic biopics.
We’ll see how the film does, both critically and commercially. However, The Wolf of Wall Street has already paved the way for his success. Even from the perspective of ten years, this cinema managed to reach today’s audience despite the extended running time.
