Wonder Woman Franchise Future In Jeopardy?! James Gunn Makes A Surprising Statement!

MOVIE NEWS – It is unclear which DC characters will join James Gunn’s DCU. But his latest comments raise questions about the future of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman…

James Gunn has shared more comments on the DCU. They raise new questions about the future of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Throughout the ups and downs of the DCEU, Gadot’s performance in the role has always been outstanding. The Israeli actress has a natural charisma that translates perfectly to bringing Princess Diana to life. The first film was a blockbuster and one of the few DCEU films to receive almost universal acclaim. The sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, was not a similar success, although this was not the fault of Gadot’s performance.

However, although her portrayal of the character remains popular, and Gadot appears in several other DC projects, it is unclear whether she will join the handful of actors who will continue in Gunn and Saffran’s new DCU.

The DCEU is being relaunched as a DCU, and other franchise veterans like Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are not returning. No official word on whether Gadot will continue in the role of Amazon. However, Gunn’s recent comments seem to suggest that another actor may take over the role going forward.

James Gunn’s list of returning lead actresses does not include Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

Gunn and Peter Safran are rebooting the DC Universe in 2024, starting with Creature Commandos and then Superman: Inheritance in 2025. While some DCEU characters will not return, there is still some uncertainty about others. For example, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Zachary Levi as Shazam. Recently, a Threads user asked Gunn which actors would continue to play their DC characters.

In response, Gunn wrote: “Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker.”

This list only confirms that three actors are moving from the DCEU to the DCU. But there are also other characters, such as Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante, who Gunn previously said would be returning. Notably absent from the list is Gadot as Wonder Woman. Gunn has not officially said that Gadot will not return. However, the status of Diana’s role is uncertain. She’s fantastic in the role, but the problem is that most of the other Justice League cast members are not returning. Her return could cause even more confusion. However, Gunn has confirmed that there will be Elseworld projects. So, it is possible that Gadot could continue her Wonder Woman role in a separate universe.

Gunn’s latest Threads post is the latest story to create uncertainty around Gadot’s future. Gadot started the speculation by claiming that Wonder Woman 3 is being developed by her and Gunn. However, her statement was not followed up with confirmation. Rumours suggest that WW3 may not be made after all. Director Patty Jenkins has said she will not return to direct the third film. So, if Gadot does return, it would be very different from the previous two films. Despite the other returning actors, Gunn seems to be building his universe from the ground up. Unfortunately, this does not bode well for Gadot’s return as Wonder Woman.
