Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Have Faulty Copies Hit The Shelves?

Some people have reported that Insomniac Games’ latest PlayStation 5 exclusive failed to install after inserting the disc into their PlayStation 5 Standard Edition console…

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released on Friday, and once again, it’s an excellent game (and its performance is essentially flawless, as we reported earlier this week). But something may have happened, because the Insomniac Games game, which doesn’t require a lengthy download, didn’t launch without a hitch for everyone. The developers have already told us that it’s worth installing the first day update, but let’s not get into that now…

There’s an active thread on Reddit about people who bought a disc copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and were unable to successfully install the story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales (as it stops at 36%). This bug has been reported mostly by European users. There have been reports from Romania, the Netherlands, and Malta, so they did not buy the game from PlayStation Network because they wanted to sell it later or exchange it for something else.

Sony has not yet commented on the case (why are we not surprised…?), so VGC has probably contacted the company for a comment on the cases of faulty installations in vain… because up to now it was almost always the case that the company did not comment when there was a bug, and usually ignored the whole thing.

Recently we wrote about the fact that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does not have a New Game+ mode yet. This is something that Insomniac Games says we can expect later this year, so the studio has a little less than two months (because the gaming industry usually shuts down in mid-December or a few days after, and everyone goes on hiatus until early January) to release it in the form of an update.

What causes the installation to fail when installing from a Blu-ray disc?
