Zack Snyder Believes His Latest Film Requires a Director’s Cut

MOVIE NEWS – The term “Snyder Cut” may soon become a household name as Zack Snyder explains why he’s making a director’s cut of his new Netflix movies.

Rebel Moon, billed as a space opera, was Zack Snyder’s original idea for a more adult Star Wars story, which he pitched after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. The concept was rejected amidst changes due to the merger, and Warner Bros. was not ready to embrace it until Netflix picked it up as a movie. In many ways, the concept is reminiscent of Star Wars.

Similar to the “Snyder Cut” version of the DC Justice League film, which was Snyder’s last project at the company, he has once again announced two new director’s cuts for his Rebel Moon film, even though the first film has yet to be released. In an interview with Netflix, Snyder revealed his reasons. “The [Rebel Moon] director’s cut offers almost an hour of extra content, so I think it’s really an extended version. It gives a much more nuanced presentation of the whole universe.”

The expanded universe is an essential part of Rebel Moon’s plans, including a co-operative game that Snyder has already announced. He further added: “Director’s cuts have always represented a kind of in-depth approach to my work. I don’t know how I got involved in this whole director’s cut mess, but I always felt these versions represented a deeper narrative. With Netflix, we only shot the scenes that were necessary for the director’s cut.”

In this context, it’s really a revelation because it offers fans a reinterpretation of sorts. “I’m excited!”

While it may be a concern if the reappraisal of the theatrical premiere becomes commonplace, Snyder’s fans will certainly enjoy it. Netflix’s faith in Snyder could even turn into a hit movie. Even his stint at DC Studios was not all disappointment, as it turned out that the Snyderverse turned a profit. Now, with full creative freedom behind a new sci-fi franchise, Snyder may be able to capitalise on the genius that has attracted so many fans.
