Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Celebrating Its Tenth Birthday, Might Get A Remake?!

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is one of the best-loved titles in Ubisoft’s popular series. Fans are demanding a remake for the 10th anniversary, and it might just be on the way…

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was initially released in October 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii U. It was released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One the following month. It has been praised by critics and fans alike, scoring 88 on the Metacritic website. Read our recent retro review of the game!

The game is set between 1715 and 1722, during the golden age of piracy, and stars Edward Kenway. With a charisma not seen since the legendary Ezio Auditore.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag lets you explore the high seas like no video game before.

For many fans of the Ubisoft series, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is arguably the favourite part of the series. So much so that they have spent countless hours completing the game across multiple platforms. So it’s no surprise that many fans are calling for a remake because it’s really about time.

In fact, as early as July 2023, rumours have been circulating that Ubisoft is currently working on a remake based on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. And fans are hoping that the sailor songs will be left alone. Only time will tell if these rumours are true.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Ubisoft has thanked its fans. “Today, we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag!” the company tweeted. “Over 34 million pirates have embarked on this unforgettable adventure through the Caribbean. Thank you for taking this journey with us! What is your favourite memory from the game?”

Responding to the tweet, fans begged Ubisoft to give us the remake we crave. “Remake Black Flag up to modern standards with more features, it’d give us an incentive to pick it up and explore things even more,” pleaded 19Icardi05.

“Seeing how successful this game was should make you see that this is the kind of game that people want to play. After Assassin’s Creed RED and HEXE, it’s worth thinking about imo.”

The thread was also full of fans begging for a modern remaster or even just a 4K/60fps update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Whether Ubisoft will answer the pleas for a next-gen update remains to be seen. But you never know. Unless, of course, Ubisoft remakes the game, in which case a next-gen remaster or update may be unlikely.
