Tiny11 Core: Windows 11 May Now Be Too Small!

TECH NEWS – Even the developer of the project says that the installation should be done at your own risk (especially not for daily use).

According to Microsoft’s official system requirements, you need at least 64 GB of free space to install Windows 11 (of which there is no 32-bit version anymore, so it comes in x64, which means you need at least 4 GB of RAM in your PC). The average installation is usually between 20-27 GB. However, NTDEV, the developer of Tiny11, has ignored this and released the first beta of the Tiny11 core, which makes Windows 11 fit into a 2 GB iso image file, and when installed it fits into 3.3 GB, so the average installation can fit into a sixth of the size at most.

According to Tom’s Hardware, the developer has previously tried to reduce the memory footprint of Microsoft’s OS, but this new version aims to reduce memory usage to take up as little space as possible on the SSD (although this is the component that can be called relatively cheap, and NVMe SSDs are available at a good price, but a PCIe Gen5 isn’t cheap…). The previous Tiny11 got the storage requirement down to 8GB, but NTDEV has halved that, albeit at a cost.

LZX has reduced the storage requirement with a disk compression solution, but many features are missing from Tiny11 Core, so there’s no way to easily update (Windows Update), the built-in antivirus software (Windows Defender) is missing, but Microsoft Edge is probably not missing for anyone, but that’s why the developer says not to replace Windows 10 with it, but rather to use it as a quick and dirty testing platform, i.e. not recommended for daily use in this form of Microsoft’s modified operating system. Many security features have also been changed in the minimization.

It is quite possible to reduce the size of the operating system with the right compression methods, and let’s just say that removing bloatware (unnecessary software and services) frees up a lot of space…
