One Fortnite Lead Developer Might Be Working With A Promising New Team?!

An update to a company website reveals that former Epic Games CEO Donald Mustard may be working on a new project with some pretty big names…

The official website of AGBO, the production company founded by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo, recently added former Fortnite creative and Epic Games director Donald Mustard as a new partner. Mustard, who spearheaded many of Fortnite’s best crossover events, has now retired from Epic. He’s potentially working on something completely new with the Russo brothers.

Fortnite is one of the best-selling games of all time, an online multiplayer battle royale game popular for its building mechanics, character skins, and dancing emotes.

Donald Mustard was originally the co-creator of the fan-favorite game back in 2017. He recently retired from his position at Epic Games, which he held for 15 years. He has not publicly commented on his future endeavours. But a new post on AGBO’s website hints at a new project with the Russo brothers.

According to an update published on the official AGBO About page, retired Fortnite mastermind Donald Mustard is now a “partner” of the Russo brothers’ production company. Neither Mustard nor AGBO have made an official statement announcing the partnership. But Mustard is listed directly below the Russós on the company’s website on the AGBO Team members page. Mustard’s description on the website notes that he previously worked at Epic Games. He has played a leading role in organizing some of Fortnite’s biggest in-game events. Namely in directing live concerts performed by Marshmello, Travis Scott and Ariana Grande, among others.

The Russo brothers have previously shared their interest in the video game industry, noting its close ties to the film and entertainment industries, and the partnership with Donald Mustard is a possible sign of AGBO’s future plans.

What can Fortnite creator Donald Mustard and the Russo brothers be working on?

Back in February 2022, Joe Russo stated that AGBO’s focus would be on partnerships with video game companies. Coincidentally — or maybe not so coincidentally — Russo’s co-host on that February conversation was Donald Mustard. The topic of the conversation was the future of the entertainment industry.

Thus, the recent hiring of the creator of Fortnite as an official partner of the production company may suggest that AGBO will also be active in the game development field in the future.

The two entities have collaborated on the game before. Marvel’s Thanos joined Fortnite in 2021 after the Russos talked to Mustard about working together. Mustard and the Russoes met for the first time in 2018. The gradual increase in collaborations, and now the official partnership, is a team-up that video game fans will want to watch out for.

The film and gaming world has had many large-scale collaborations over the years. Most often in the form of film adaptations of beloved video game franchises. The Sonic the Hedgehog movies and The Super Mario Bros. Movie are just a few of the many crossovers between movie and game studios. Now that the former Fortnite game director is teaming up with two popular Marvel movie directors, interested fans will want to keep an eye out for updates on their future projects.
