Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Surprisingly Little of the Horror Movie Legend’s Actor-Recorded Venom Dialogue Was Used in the Final Game!

The voice actor for Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has confirmed that only 10% of the dialogue recorded for the character was used in the final game. Venom is one of the most iconic comic book villains of all time, and his return in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was one of the most anticipated parts of the new release. However, it seems that a lot of content was left in the cutting room.

Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man games have been a huge hit for Marvel. Despite his enduring popularity, the character has often struggled for critical acclaim in video games, despite his obvious potential. Reviews of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have been generally positive. While it seems that Insomniac Games will now focus on the Wolverine title, there is no doubt that they may explore Venom further in a future Marvel’s Spider-Man release.

The news was made public on Twitter by Evan Filarca, who attended a panel with Venom actor Tony Todd at FAN EXPO San Francisco 2023. There, Todd confirmed that Insomniac used only 10% of all the dialogue shot for Venom, including the deleted scenes where Miles takes on the symbiote. The full context of these lines is not known, so it is possible that many of them were generic in-game lines intended for the playable portions of Venom. However, it’s also possible that Venom was intended to have a larger role in the game, which was cut for the gallery of crazy villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

News of Venom’s remaining dialogue will certainly spark speculation as to how the character will be used in the future. One current leading theory is looking at what a Spider-Man semi-sequel based on Venom might look like, as Miles Morales has been given his own standalone issue to further explore the character. However, nothing is confirmed yet, and Venom’s fate in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is definitely more wishful thinking than anything solid.

At the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Venom is killed off after Peter frees Harry Osborn from his grasp. It seems extremely premature for Insomniac Games to be done with the character, especially in light of how popular he remains among fans of the franchise. However, if Insomniac Games plays by the rules of the comics, no one can really die forever.
