An Acclaimed RPG Is Added To The PC Game Pass Catalogue!

PC Game Pass is adding a critically acclaimed RPG to its ever-growing catalogue, bolstering its monthly subscription service.

Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition has been added to the PC Game Pass library. Developer Obsidian Entertainment’s critically acclaimed RPG has already been available on Game Pass for consoles. But now PC subscribers can join in on the fun.

Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition is one of the two new features of the service today, as Xbox Game Pass has been expanded with a vast open-world game in the form of Far Cry 6.

Despite being several years old, Pillars of Eternity and its sequel are still two of the best RPGs on Xbox Game Pass. Obsidian Entertainment is considered one of the best developers in the genre. With popular games like The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas already staples of PC Game Pass. Fans are still eagerly awaiting the developer’s next big game, Avowed. This is scheduled for release in 2024. But in the meantime, there are already plenty of well-regarded Obsidian games on the subscription service.

PC Game Pass has added Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition to its ever-growing library. The original version was well received by critics, scoring 89 on Metacritic on PC. It received similarly good reviews on consoles. It has been nominated for the Game of the Year award several times. Moreover, ahead of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was also published in 2015, it won the prize for the best role-playing game from several publications.

However, the Definitive Edition, released a few years later, includes the original game as well as the DLCs, The White March 1 & 2 expansions, and the behind-the-scenes content-rich Royal Edition.

It was developed as a sort of spiritual successor to the previous Baldur’s Gate titles. So now it seems appropriate to add Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition to the service. Baldur’s Gate 3’s impressive success at The Game Awards has put an exclamation point on one of the year’s biggest surprise hits. Although the series has been around for decades, the success of the latest instalment suggests that many players were introduced to the Baldur’s Gate franchise for the first time this year. By definition, Pillars of Eternity’s PC Game Pass release could be tempting for those hungry for more RPGs after a Game of the Year triumphant finish.

In addition to the acclaimed game, Game Pass Ultimate offers subscribers three free games to try this weekend. The subscription service added ten new games this month, and Game Pass has already announced a slew of additional titles for the coming weeks and months, several of which will be available on day one.
