Could One Of The Marvel Movie Flops Be Resurrected As An Animated Series?!

MOVIE NEWS – Marvel Studios might give one more chance to one of its failed movies in the MCU in the form of an animated series. Or maybe another botched movie will get a chance…

Marvel Studios’ Eternals opened in 2021 with dismal box office figures and devastating reviews. However, the studio may be giving the failed IP a second chance at success with an animated series.

Disney suffered a staggering $50 million loss due to the poor performance of Eternals. The film boasted a brand new team of post-Endgame superheroes and ended with many unanswered questions. They wanted to continue the story, but after the debacle, the MCU seemingly continued as if Eternals never happened.

However, according to a new sensation from independent journalist Daniel Richtman, Disney Plus may be adding an Eternals series to its lineup of impressive animated series like What If…?

According to the insider, the untitled MCU series is envisioned in the anime style. Richtman even shared a short synopsis of the mystical series, which reads:

“A clandestine group of ancient cosmic beings living undercover on Earth are trying to protect the world without being discovered by humans. They find themselves entangled in a cosmic battle that could reshape the fate of the universe.”

Perhaps Marvel Studios is planning to revive Eternals in a cheaper format. Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani says a sequel seems unlikely. However, a series can allow the creators to deal with unsewn threads in the film without taking the financial risk of another live-action blockbuster. The synopsis definitely sounds like Eternals could be revived. Maybe it would take place before the events of the MCU movie. However, some have speculated that the logline may refer not to the Eternals but to the Inhumans.

Why is it more likely that Marvel will resurrect the Eternals?

Richtman’s synopsis is vague enough to apply to any superhero team. Technically, Inhumans are humans who have abilities due to genes mutated due to exposure to the Terrigen mist. On the other hand, the Eternals are agents of humans created by the alien race Celestials to protect Earth.

Since the logline revealed by Richtman refers to the characters as “ancient cosmic beings” who are “trying to protect the world,” there’s a good chance the new series will be an Eternals adaptation.

Although the film was a commercial and critical failure, some MCU fans still wait for the Eternals to return. Right now, the best chance for an MCU tie-in is the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars. Kang Dynasty is also in question, but the future of Avengers 5 is still up in the air due to the recent Jonathan Majors scandal.

If Richtman’s sensation manifests as he claims, it could mean that Marvel Studios relegates the IP to animated films after a disappointing cinematic debut. Of course, it’s also possible that the studio decides to continue the story in both formats. Harry Styles’ Starfox will likely return to the MCU after his cameo appearance in the film. There may be hope for the other characters as well. Animation here or there, fans remain optimistic. Everyone hopes that Marvel Studios will find a way to fit the Eternals back into the larger MCU with dignity. As well as solve some mind-blowing cliffhangers…
