Members in the Premium tier of PlayStation Plus can now access a new time-limited trial for a fighting game released in 2023.

Members in the Premium tier of PlayStation Plus have access to a new trial for Mortal Kombat 1. PS Plus Premium subscribers get some additional benefits over the Essential and Extra tiers, as users can play select PS1, PS2, and PSP games at no extra cost.

Premium members also get access to time-limited game trials, allowing them to try out titles for a specific period. The duration varies between games, as some offer up to five hours of gameplay, while others only allow fans to play for an hour or two. As PS Plus Premium trials offer the full version of the title, players’ progress will carry over should they decide to buy the game. Sony regularly updates the list of trials available to subscribers, and Mortal Kombat 1 has now been added to this collection.

As seen on the PlayStation Store, PS Plus Premium members can now play Mortal Kombat 1 for up to two hours at no extra cost. This timer will start upon launching Mortal Kombat 1, so players must fully close the game to stop the countdown. Users interested in taking advantage of this trial should note that Mortal Kombat 1 has a massive file size, as it can take 114.414 GB of storage space on PS5.

Mortal Kombat 1 received generally favorable reviews upon its release in September 2023, as its PS5 version has a score of 83 on Metacritic. It’s fairly similar to the critical reception of Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat X, so it looks like PS Plus Premium members can try out a well-received fighting game as a part of their subscription service.

Even though two hours may not seem like a lot of time, it allows users to get a hands-on experience with Mortal Kombat 1. Gamers can then choose to play online against other players, start the main story of Mortal Kombat 1, or try out the other modes on offer. Overall, this move can give PS Plus Premium subscribers a better idea about Mortal Kombat 1’s features and gameplay mechanics.

Sony regularly adds new games to PS Plus Premium every month, with Mega Man Legacy Collection, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and more being available from December 19. Premium subscribers can also play all the titles coming to the Extra tier, giving them access to Grand Theft Auto 5, Metal: Hellsinger, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, Salt and Sacrifice, and more at no extra cost.
