One of the ways Grand Theft Auto 6 could bring back Tommy Vercetti would be for players to meet the now elderly character as part of a chain of missions. Like Tommy in GTA: Vice City, Tommy fought his way to the top of the criminal food chain and took out anyone who got in his way, the protagonists of GTA 6 could find themselves on a similar path. If Tommy is still running Vice City’s criminal underworld in GTA 6, players could find themselves on a collision course with the crime kingpin.

Meeting Tommy Vercetti face-to-face would be a great experience for long-time fans of the Grand Theft Auto series, but with the death of actor Ray Liotta in 2022, that could prove difficult. Tommy Vercetti’s voice, Liotta’s portrayal of gangsters in films like Goodfellas, helped him bring a realism to the role that would be difficult to replicate. While players wouldn’t get to meet Tommy in person, the legacy of his time as boss of Vice City would be impossible to ignore.

Exploring how Tommy’s old-fashioned criminal empire adapts to the modern world without him would provide a great foundation for the violent, twisty storyline that the GTA franchise has become known for. If this premise were to become central to the game’s story, rather than a side mission, players might even find themselves having to choose between working with the remnants of Tommy’s gang or with the young gangsters vying to replace them.

With GTA 6 returning to Vice City, it seems appropriate that Tommy Vercetti should be part of the story. Whether it’s by allowing players to meet him or simply dealing with his lasting impact on the city, Tommy deserves one last chance to shine.
