Gary Oldman Describes His Performance In The Harry Potter Films Surprisingly [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman believes his performance as the infamous wizard Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise was merely “mediocre”.

Gary Oldman thinks his performance as Sirius Black in Harry Potter was “mediocre”. The English actor first appeared in the 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He played the infamous godfather of Harry Potter, Sirius Black. He played the role in two more films before his character met a tragic end in 2007’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Although Oldman’s performance as Sirius Black was generally well-received by critics and audiences alike, the actor is apparently unsatisfied with his performance.

On Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gary Oldman recently called his performance as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise “mediocre.”

Oldman believes his performance would have been better if he had read J.K. Rowling’s source material. Or if he’s aware of his character’s arc, much like his Professor Snape co-star Alan Rickman. However, Oldman suggests that he is self-critical of all his own work. You can read his full commentary below:

“I think my work is mediocre in it. No, I do. Maybe if I had read the books like Alan, if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what’s coming, I honestly think I would have played it differently … I’ll tell you what it is. It’s like anything, if I sat and watched myself in something and said, “My god, I’m amazing,” that would be a very sad day, because you want to make the next thing better.”

Gary Oldman’s performance in Harry Potter is far from mediocre

Oldman was already an established actor before joining the Harry Potter franchise. He began his career in theatre before starring in films such as Oliver Stone’s JFK and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. He later became known for his villainous roles in Pure Romance, Léon: The Professional, and, of course, The Fifth Element and Air Force One. But he also played legends on the screen, such as Ludwig van Beethoven. This reputation for villainous roles made Oldman the perfect fit for the role of Sirius Black, who was initially cast as a cruel wizard determined to kill Harry. It is later revealed that Sirius actually wants to protect him.
