The next PS Plus Premium update will bring five games to the service, including several PlayStation 1 classics. And the Extra level gets nine new titles!

 

 

Sony has confirmed the five games coming to the Premium tier of its PlayStation Plus subscription service on Tuesday, January 16. PlayStation Plus Premium is the highest level of PS Plus. The subscription gives subscribers access to a selection of classic games in addition to the benefits associated with the Plus Essential and Extra tiers.

PS Plus Essential provides players with a month’s worth of free PS Plus games, while PS Plus Extra adds a few rotating PS4 and PS5 games.

The selection of PS Plus Premium will be expanded soon. After all, five new games will be added to the service on Tuesday, January 16.

Sony has announced that Legend of Mana, Rally Cross, Secret of Mana, Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace and Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection will be coming to Premium next week. Legend of Mana and Secret of Mana are the PS4 versions of the aforementioned games. Rally Cross and Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace came straight from the PS1. Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection is technically 12 games in one. Thus, PS Plus Premium subscribers will have no shortage of games in January either.

Of the new PS Plus Premium games coming in January 2024, fans are probably most excited about Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. The Phantom Menace PS1 game received mixed reviews when it was released in 1999. But many nostalgic Star Wars fans still remember it fondly.

Many will likely appreciate the opportunity to revisit the game on a new platform, and it will be interesting to see how it reacts among modern players.

Of course, PS Plus Premium subscribers can also access the new PS Plus Extra games. The new PS Plus Extra games were announced for January 2024 alongside the latest PS Plus Premium games. Hardspace: Shipbreaker, Just Cause 3, LEGO City Undercover, Resident Evil 2, Session: Skate Sim, Shadow Tactics: Blade of the Shogun, Surviving the Aftermath, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: Next-Level Edition, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Contains Swansong games. As with the Premium level games, the new Extra games will be available on Tuesday, January 16.

These nine new games replace the nine Extra games that are being phased out of the service this month. When the PS Plus Extra lineup is updated, fans will have to say goodbye to Devil May Cry 5, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, It Takes Two, Jett: The Far Shore, The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories, Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae, Omno, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire – Ultimate Edition and SnowRunner.

While it’s sad to see nine games removed from Extra, January 2024 was otherwise a strong month for the subscription service. Free PS Plus games for January 2024 include A Plague Tale: Requiem, Evil West, and Nobody Saves the World, all of which are great games, and there’s plenty to be excited about this month in terms of new Extra games.
