MOVIE NEWS – Keanu Reeves’ return as John Wick is already a lot of speculation. But an even bigger comeback awaits him in another action franchise…

 

 

Since the release of John Wick 4 in early 2023, many theories have surfaced about the fate of Keanu Reeves’ character and whether he might return in the fifth instalment. However, 2024 could mark an even bigger comeback for the actor. Reeves reinvented his late career by starring in the 2014 action franchise.

Still, after the end of John Wick 4, it seems like a return may not be possible (although many theories suggest otherwise); there are other options for Keanu Reeves when it comes to action franchises.

Keanu Reeves’ films cover a wide variety of genres, from romantic comedies to dramas to science fiction. However, there is something about him and action movies. One of his first significant roles was the lead role in the 90s classic, Point Break alongside Patrick Swayze. He also gained substantial worldwide fame by playing Neo in one of the most famous franchises of all time, The Matrix. And finally, at a more mature stage in his life, he starred in another excellent action franchise, John Wick. However, 30-year-old Keanu Reeves will have a classic action film in 2024, to which he should return and put him next to his female protagonist: and this is none other than Speed!

 

Can Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock star together in Speed 3?

 

Speed was released in 1994, starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. The film follows the story of a police commando who tries to save people travelling on a bus. There is a bomb on the bus that explodes if the vehicle is going slower than 50 miles per hour. The film was a critical and box-office success. It grossed $350 million on a $30 million budget!

The on-screen chemistry between Reeves and Bullock is undoubtedly one of the film’s highlights, which spawned an off-screen romance and another film collaboration.

However, Reeves did not like the script for the film’s sequel, which led to his departure from the franchise. While Speed 3 has yet to be confirmed, Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, as well as Jan de Bont, the director of the previous two films, have said they could return to the franchise under certain conditions. Given that the second part was a total failure, a return of Speed would definitely need the original lead pair. The most important thing for this is to have a good script. The 30th anniversary of the original film seems like the perfect time to cap off the full return of Speed 3 with an excellent script. All this could make up for what happened in the past.

 

Why would a Reeves’ Speed return be better than John Wick 5?

 

With the end of John Wick 4, the story arc of Keanu Reeves’ character can be considered practically complete. Given that bringing him back from the dead is possible, given some theories, it would probably be too farfetched. It might seem like it’s better to let them rest in peace. Plus, Reeves’ involvement in the John Wick spinoff Ballerina seems like a better option for him to stay in the franchise. In other words, reviving not only a classic 90s action franchise like Speed but also a fantastic duo like Bullock and Reeves is much more exciting than a forced return of Wick in a fifth instalment.
