We can say that Sony is capable of being the spoiler of all good things…
We’ve been following the progress of the PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the news, but we’re not talking about the Insomniac Games version, but a fork of it, or development fork. This could be a result of the ransomware attack on Insomniac, which leaked a lot of data onto the internet, including the unfinished PC development code for the game, which is currently only available on PlayStation 5.
PC Focus reported on Twitter that the unofficial PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been canceled for the foreseeable future. No details or reasons were given on Discord, so we can only speculate: the safety of the developers was probably a priority, as they were allegedly harassed and then had their private information published. So this might have been a bit of a dirty trick by Sony, although it cannot be ruled out that this sad situation was caused by fanboys…
And development was in full swing, so who knows how much time was left before the unofficial PC conversion could be released. Meanwhile, the real PC port is being developed (with a budget Insomniac has never seen before) and the studio is supposed to finish development by the end of March, but we still have to wait six months if not more for its release, because Sony is prioritizing the PlayStation 5, so if the sales of Peter Parker and Miles Morales there continue to hit the mark in the long run, they won’t release the PC port (which they hope to release in a refined state) until then.
There is a small moral to this story. It would have been better for the developers to keep their mouths shut and wait until the sudden release of the unofficial PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. But now it’s too late.
