The developers have said that even though it is a live service game, they want to respect players’ time because everyone has a life outside of the game.
The developers at Rocksteady Studios have answered a number of questions about the game on Discord. They talked about the Battle Pass, seasonal content, endgame content, and multiplayer. Studio Director Darius Sadeghian wrote: “You will be able to go back and play previous Battle Passes after a season ends. We believe our team has created some of the best-looking cosmetic items ever, and we want our players to be able to enjoy them without fear of missing out. You will be able to replay the two “episodes” added with each season. These include new equipment (including an Infamy set based on an iconic DC villain), new missions, and new boss battles, all for the low, low price of (you guessed it) free!”
The game can essentially be played entirely solo. This was confirmed by director Axel Rydby: “All the content and missions we have in the game can be played solo or in any group configuration. If the fourth player in your 4-player squad can’t make it because they have the audacity to have a life outside of the game, it won’t stop the rest of you from playing if you choose to continue. We all love to play games, but we also have lives (sort of), and that’s a big part of our design philosophy in making this game. We don’t want the game to feel like a life commitment, or a game where you have to sacrifice a lot to see all the content, or feel like you’re not making good progress in the game unless you can play hundreds of hours. We want this game to be generous, both with your time and with all the features we have to offer.”
And why does the Joker look different in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League? He is one of the characters that will be coming with his own story content when the game is released in March. He’ll look completely different from the Batman: Arkham games, and Rocksteady writer Kate Watson said that the old Arkhamverse Joker is so iconic that they wanted to create a completely unique one. The Suicide Squad version is much more theatrical: He wears a colorful costume, carries a rocket-powered umbrella, and JP Karliak’s improvised lines were often better than what they wrote, she said. But a bombing leaves the villain with a prosthetic leg. He’s a younger character, and in his own universe he was a member of Task Force X, so he’s less hostile, but he’s trying to cover up his flaws with his harmful actions. He’s still crazy.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is out February 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC.
