[SOP 2024]: First Gameplay Trailer For Death Stranding 2 Is Out – Hideo Kojima Announces New MGS-Style Game! [VIDEO]

Kojima Productions’ temporary PS5-exclusive sequel, Death Stranding 2, finally got a gameplay teaser, while Hideo Kojima revealed another equally promising project…

Like it or not, Hideo Kojima is known to be a restless mind when it comes to game development. Undoubtedly, Death Stranding 2, his next big project, will be just as divisive as the first. Will it be more and better? We don’t know, but what we do know are new plot details for the game. Plus, the temporary PS5-exclusive game’s full title and release window have been revealed!

Of course, the new trailer for Kojima’s new game leaves no one cold, thanks to the Japanese creative, who knows how to present his games’ previews well.

With action, horror, and madness, Norman Reedus and Léa Seydoux return to their roles. Best of all, it’s finally a gameplay demo featuring a battle between a samurai and a futuristic electric guitar-wielding Troy Baker. Open-world sections and a puppet that talks and accompanies the main character.

There was already much speculation about the date of the Japanese developer’s next game. Although some have put it after 2024, OD’s presentation at The Game Awards in 2023 and Kojima’s intention to develop both games in parallel made it clear that Death Stranding 2 would be the first to be released.

Unfortunately, however, while many of us were anxiously waiting for the end of the trailer to see a release date or window, it was Kojima Productions’ official account that revealed the surprise: the game is coming in 2025.

Hideo Kojima’s career has been debated by many over the years. Now that he has his own studio and is open to any publisher that wants to work with him, such as Microsoft with Overdose, it was expected that his participation in the State of Play, which will be released in January 2024, would be impressive.

PS5 State of Play: the official title of Death Stranding 2 has been revealed

Best of all, Death Stranding 2 finally has a full title after a leak that we assume spoiled the surprise for the Japanese. It was strange to think of a game of his that there was nothing “special” about it beyond those 2. Here it is. As hinted on social media, On the Beach will be the subtitle of the new adventure. This is undoubtedly a reference to the film of the same name, which is obviously Hideo Kojima’s favourite.

Are the two stories connected, or is it just an homage? Stanley Kramer’s 1959 film has many similarities, especially in terms of setting, to the universe Kojima created.

Is Hideo Kojima going back to his roots with his new MGS-esque game?

At the recent State of Play, the Japanese director legend confirmed that he is working on a new action/spy game. It’s a new Metal Gear-style title, previously only known as Physint. (It won’t officially be part of the IP.) Production is collaborating with Kojima Productions and Sony, though we can’t expect it to happen anytime soon.

One of the few details that have been revealed is that it’s already in the works, but it won’t be taken too seriously until Death Stranding 2 comes out.

During the State of Play, Kojima said it would be a new intellectual product: a next-gen action spy game. Production becomes more serious at Kojima Productions after the release of Death Stranding 2. While he didn’t want to reveal too many details, he did say that it would be a game that would combine “the world’s most innovative technology and the best development talent.” We can expect an interactive, yet cinematic game.

“With this game, we hope to break the boundaries between movies and video games,” Hideo Kojima said of the new project.

For its part, Sony has promised to provide as much assistance as is needed. In this sense, it is a game developed together with PlayStation.

All of this is very positive news for all fans of Kojima’s classic games. But we have to be careful. Expect this Metal Gear-esque action-spy game to be many, many years away. Taking the five years between the first Death Stranding and the sequel as a benchmark, it would be hard to imagine this game coming out before 2029.
