Death Stranding 2: On The Beach: A Character Doesn’t Return, But An Enemy Type Does!

The leak was not wrong about the subtitle of Hideo Kojima’s next game.

The game appeared on State of Play, and here Sony confirmed that we can only expect it in 2025. This has led some to wonder if one of the characters from the first Death Stranding will return. In this regard, Kojima confirmed on Twitter that Mads Mikkelsen has not accepted a role in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, so Cliff Unger will be left out of his story, which makes sense from that perspective, as essentially all of the mystery character’s questions have been answered. However, Sam Bridges (Norman Reedus), Fragile (Lea Seydoux) and Higgs (Troy Baker) are sure to return, and they will be joined by Elle Fanning, whose role in the game is still unknown. The look of the drawbridge captain is modeled after George Miller, the director of Max Max, and is voiced by Marty Rhone.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is sure to have bigger mysteries to solve in the game, and each new video reveals more about what to expect in the sequel, but in the meantime, fans are also speculating. The influence of Yoji Shinkawa’s work is also evident. He’s already shown what he can do in Metal Gear Solid, and now Kojima’s game has taken his inspiration for character and machine design. Some of the robots in Death Stranding: Director’s Cut may have been reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid, but the sequel takes this further (Fragile’s ship, the DHV Magellan, is similar to Metal Gear Rex), and the machine soldiers could fit into Zone of the Enders or Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

But they did include a robot ninja who stopped Higgs. He’s essentially the only cyborg ninja from Metal Gear Solid, and is obviously a direct reference to Kojima’s old work. He’s one of the iconic characters from Metal Gear Solid (first Gry Fox, then Olga Gurlukovich played the role; in MGS4 it was Raiden, but in Metal Gear Solid 5 it was imitated by Skulls Parasite). For this reason, we can look forward to Death Stranding 2: On The Beach…
