Sony is rumored to be planning exclusively with AMD hardware, and the goal is to make the most powerful hardware of the next console generation.
RedGamingTech’s (RGT) video is embedded below, and in it he reports not only on the PlayStation 6, but also on the PlayStation 5 Pro, which Sony still hasn’t announced, but with so many rumors about it, there’s probably some truth to it for sure, because the smaller, lighter, but no cheaper redesigned PlayStation 5 (which was not called Slim, and the fan version we showed you was) has been in the news a lot, and Sony has announced it, and it’s in stores now.
According to RGT, developer kits for the PlayStation 5 Pro are now available to third-party developers outside of the company, and while there’s still a possibility that the hardware won’t be made, there’s a greater chance that a half-generation update will be released in 2024. As for the PlayStation 6, the specs have not been finalized yet, so we don’t know what processor and how much RAM it might have. Sony is now in talks with studios to fine-tune the system, but it’s essentially guaranteed that the company will rely on AMD’s technology this time around, as “the blues” are not expecting anything else. Nvidia was previously mentioned as a possibility, but they seem to have dropped out of the race.
Sony wants to launch the most powerful of the new generation of consoles and therefore prefers to wait until 2028. The company is rumored to be focusing on ray tracing and path tracing. The latter hasn’t really caught on yet due to the high performance requirements, but machine learning and artificial intelligence won’t be left out of the console either; the latter is all about interacting with NPCs and achieving a better gaming experience.
Of course, this is not official information yet, so these are just rumors. In addition to the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro, the price of the PlayStation 5 Pro could also be an interesting question…
