EXODUS, the sci-fi action-adventure announced at The Game Awards 2023 is not something Archetype Entertainment is working on alone.
The developers have announced that Certain Affinity has been working closely with Archetype Entertainment since 2022, and the company’s creative director and co-founder James Ohlen (who previously worked on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the first two Baldur’s Gate titles as lead designer) and studio vice president and Exodus co-founder and executive producer Chad Robertson (formerly studio director at Electronic Arts’ BioWare) explained in a press release why they welcome the helping hand in development.
“This game introduces an extremely innovative and expansive world. We are creating a new universe that we hope will be the beginning of a decades-long narrative-driven adventure for players. I’ve known Max for a long time and was thrilled to partner with Certain Affinity on this project. With his support and the addition of his outstanding team, we’re excited to bring this new AAA sci-fi universe to life,” said Ohlen.
“The value of our experienced teams joining forces adds a clear advantage to the project and ensures that in today’s competitive video game market, Exodus will be an [intellectual property] that stands out in terms of quality, deep engagement and value for players. We have enjoyed working with Certain Affinity and look forward to the unique opportunities that come from such a deep partnership with such an experienced team,” added Robertson.
Certain Affinity previously brought together Age of Booty and Crimson Alliance on its own (the studio was founded in 2006; not much in 17 years!), and has co-developed several installments of the Call of Duty and Halo franchises (most recently helping 343 Industries with Halo Infinite). EXODUS is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox series and PC, but no release date is known yet.
