Baldur’s Gate 3 has passed 500,000 reviews on Steam, as Hasbro is riding high on the success of last year’s wildly popular Game of the Year!
Baldur’s Gate 3 has an “Overwhelmingly positive” overall rating on Steam with over 500,000 reviews! While the game may not have set the world on fire in early access, its popularity exploded upon full release. The game set records for developer Larian and took home numerous year-end awards from various publications and ceremonies.
Critical reviews of Baldur’s Gate 3 were overwhelmingly positive upon release, and the game soon became one of the highest-rated video games of all time.
In fact, there was a brief period when Baldur’s Gate 3 was the highest-rated PC game of all time! The user reviews are just as positive, if not outright better. The game currently enjoys “Overwhelmingly Positive” ratings on Steam, both in terms of recent reviews and overall reception of the game.
What makes it even more impressive is that BG3 maintains an “Overwhelmingly Positive” status with over 500,000 reviews to date. The fact that so many Steam users not only bought the game but also took the time to sing its praises is a testament to the high quality of Larian’s beloved RPG.
Even Hasbro, which is only indirectly involved in the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, is mowing the game
Hasbro has made $90 million with Baldur’s Gate 3 since the successful RPG was released in August 2023. Although BG3 was not produced directly by Hasbro, Hasbro did share in its success through a licensing agreement between Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast.
Given its multiple awards, including Game of the Year 2023, few gamers haven’t heard of BG3 since its release last summer. Developed by Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate 3 uses a modified 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons system for gameplay. Furthermore, it takes place in the Forgotten Realms universe. This is the default environment used in many D&D adventures.
Needless to say, Larian Studios had to make a licensing deal with Hasbro through Wizards of the Coast to make Baldur’s Gate 3.
According to Hasbro’s earnings report for the last quarter of 2023, BG3 brought in an impressive amount of money through the deal. Since the release of the successful CRPG, Wizards of the Coast’s revenue has increased by 7%. Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks admitted that this could also be attributed to the hugely popular Lord of the Rings Magic: The Gathering set. (It also came out around this time.) However, Baldur’s Gate 3 was a significant contributor to the increase in profits. The company estimates that the Dungeons and Dragons licensing deal has brought in about $90 million for Hasbro since its release.
