The twist is that this is the version without the Blu-ray drive!
So it follows that Sony could be planning two SKUs in this case as well. There could be a bundle that includes the Blu-ray drive along with the console, and another bundle that does not include the optical drive. So there could be a PlayStation 5 Pro Digital Edition. Last year we wrote about the possible specs of the console, so the possible GPU, CPU and memory have been revealed.
In a new video, the not always reliable Moore’s Law Is Dead has gone into detail about the features of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The clock speed of the rumored processor cannot be confirmed yet, but he has heard that Sony is planning 16 gigabytes of GDDR6, 18 Gbps bandwidth, 256-bit memory. The GPU could have 60 compute units (CUs) on the entire circuit, but with 4 of them turned off, the more powerful PlayStation 5 could use 56. AMD expects the PlayStation 5 Pro to hit stores during this year’s holiday shopping season.
How much can Sony charge? According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, the Digital Edition version will cost $500 (and if we had to predict, $600 for the Blu-ray version). It’s claimed that the production costs aren’t significantly higher than the base PlayStation 5. By choosing the cheapest 16GB memory instead of 20GB, Sony can save on the price of the PlayStation 5’s RAM (rightly so, as prices tend to drop as technology develops). The YouTuber suggests that the production cost of the PlayStation 5 Pro might be a little higher than the model released just over three years ago, but the amount shouldn’t be that much.
The same insider said in December that the PlayStation 5 Pro will be a fairly developer-friendly console, so developers won’t have to push themselves too hard for better performance. But none of this is official yet, so we’ll treat it all as rumors.
