A widely loved game is making a surprising reappearance on the Steam sales charts more than eight years after its release.
Stardew Valley is currently the fifth best-selling game on Steam as of February 27th. Its re-emergence near the top of the bestseller list coincides with the game’s eighth anniversary.
Developed by Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, Stardew Valley has long been regarded as one of the most successful indie games.
Although its $14.99 price tag might suggest otherwise, the Story of Seasons-inspired farm simulator is one of the most content-rich games of its kind. Plus, you still get updates! The latest one was just announced on February 26th on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the game’s release.
A day later, Stardew Valley found itself near the top of Steam’s bestseller list. It is currently in fifth place here. While the announcement of another major update has seemingly renewed player interest in the game, the surge in popularity has likely been boosted by a massive 50% discount, matching Stardew Valley’s lowest price ever. The offer was only valid for 24 hours, which expired yesterday.
Steam Top Sellers February 27th, 2024:
- Helldivers 2
- Counter-Strike 2
- Steam Deck
- Last Epoch
- Stardew Valley
- PUBG: Battlegrounds
- Elden Ring
- Apex Legends
- Palworld
- Baldur’s Gate 3
We do not yet know how long the game will manage to keep its place in the top 10. But regardless, this development is another remarkable testament to the game’s staying power. As for what’s next for the farming simulator, Stardew Valley update 1.6 promises, among other things, seasonal clothing for the residents of Pelican Town. Also, over 100 new lines of dialogue, two mini-festivals, and new Joja endgame missions.
The update is scheduled to hit PC players on March 19th, with ConcernedApe promising that the mobile and console versions of Stardew Valley will follow “as soon as possible.”
We don’t even know if the upcoming update will be the last significant addition to the game. ConcernedApe has long stated that he wants to focus on his next project, Haunted Chocolatier. But in doing so, he never ruled out future Stardew Valley updates. Based on what the developer has shared on social media over the past few years, Haunted Chocolatier has already been his main focus for some time now. The long-term success of Stardew Valley, which recently passed 30 million sales, should ensure that ConcernedApe can devote as much time as he wants to his next project.
